Data centers are critical to a company’s information. The centers are used to store, manage and transport data to different people of the company. The data is stored in many different computers that can fill a whole room. The centers can have different requirements, and look different ways (architecture).  Different companies like Amazon, Google, and even the Pentagon house computers of different designs, and data that is unique to the profession of the industry. Data centers are the brain and nervous system of a company. Information is released from the data center and sent to different employees throughout the area. They also are considered critical to a company.

Data Center Breakdown

There are many terms or jargon associated with a data center. For example, the location of a data center is called a “facility”. A facility (white space) also provides 24 hour access to information, which makes data centers a top energy consuming facility. A facility also stores all the IT equipment, and must keep the environment at a specific temperature and humidity range.  Support infrastructure is the equipment used to sustain the highest level is availability.  These infrastructures include uninterruptible power sources, environmental control and physical security systems. Each of these components have a devise that create each infrastructure. Uninterruptible power sources, also called UPS contain battery banks, generators and redundant power sources. Environmental control includes computer room air conditioners, heating exhaust system, ventilation and HVAC systems. Physical security systems can involve bio metrics and video surveillance systems.  Lastly, data centers contain IT equipment. IT equipment can vary but most systems include storage hardware, cables, racks, and servers. There are many components to data centers and how they work.
