Air Cooled Data Center Systems

Air Cooled Data Centers

Air cooled systems for data centers are critical to keeping a company going. The data centers must be cooled 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This provides access for anyone who wants to work at any time of day. One system, called a CRAC system is usable to control a data centers temperature. The two part CRAC systems uses an air cooled condenser out that removes heat from the indoor center.

CRAC, or computer room air conditioner is similar to an air conditioner in one’s house.  The CRAC system has a refrigeration cycle built into it. The compressors required to power the unit are located within. Cooling is able to happen by blowing air over a cooling coil. The coil is filled with a type of refrigerant. Refrigerants can include glycol, water, or glycol/water mix. The CRAC system cools at a consistent and uniform rate.

The circulation of hot air and cold air is recycled from the CRAC units. CRAC systems can have fixable problems that allow for better air circulation.  Monitoring systems can be crucial to creating a friendly environment for computers.  A best way to monitor the system is by having a thermostat that can adjust for the input and output of temperatures.  By circulating the air, energy consumption is decreased and can be used over and over again. One flaw in the monitoring system can result in a intense complication.
